This policy explains what personal information My Handicrafts collects when you use myhandicrafts.co.uk, why we collect it, and what rights you have over it. We have written it in plain English rather than legal language.

My Handicrafts sells handmade Indian handicrafts to customers in the United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK data protection law we are the data controller for the information described below.

What information we collect
We only collect what we need in order to sell and deliver our products.
- When you place an order: your name, billing address, delivery address, email address and telephone number, along with the items you bought and the amount paid.
- When you create an account: your name, email address and a password, which is stored in an encrypted form that nobody at My Handicrafts can read.
- When you contact us: your name, email address and whatever you choose to write in your message.
- Automatically, when you browse: your IP address, browser type and the pages you visited. This is recorded in standard server logs and is used to keep the site secure and working.
We do not use Google Analytics, advertising pixels or any other visitor tracking on this website.
Payment information
Card and PayPal payments are processed by PayPal, not by us. When you pay, you are handed to PayPal and your card details are entered on their systems. We never see or store your full card number. We receive only confirmation that the payment succeeded, along with the billing details needed to fulfil your order. PayPal is a separate data controller and handles that information under its own privacy policy.
How we use your information
- To take payment for, prepare and deliver your order.
- To contact you about an order, for example to confirm dispatch or to raise a problem with an item.
- To answer enquiries you send us.
- To keep the accounting records that UK tax law requires us to keep.
- To protect the website against fraud, spam and attacks.
We do not sell your information to anyone, and we do not use it to make automated decisions about you.
Our lawful bases
UK GDPR requires us to have a lawful basis for using your information. Ours are:
- Performance of a contract for anything needed to process and deliver your order.
- Legal obligation for keeping records of sales for tax purposes.
- Legitimate interests for keeping the site secure and preventing fraud, and for replying to enquiries you send us.
- Consent for any marketing email, which we will only send if you have asked us to. You can withdraw that consent at any time.
Who we share information with
We share your information only where it is necessary, and only with:
- PayPal, to take payment.
- Delivery companies, so that your parcel reaches you. They receive your name, address and, where the carrier needs it, your telephone number or email address for delivery notifications.
- Our web hosting provider, which stores the website and its database on our behalf.
- HMRC and other authorities, where the law requires us to.
Cookies
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. This site uses two kinds.
- Essential cookies set by WooCommerce, which remember what is in your basket and keep you logged in. The site cannot work without these.
- Third party cookies set by PayPal, which PayPal uses to detect fraud on its payment buttons.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but if you block the essential ones you will not be able to use the basket or checkout.
How long we keep your information
- Order and payment records: six years after the end of the tax year they relate to, because UK tax law requires it.
- Account details: until you ask us to close your account.
- Enquiry messages: up to two years after we have dealt with your enquiry.
- Server and security logs: a rolling short period, typically no more than twelve months.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you,
- ask us to correct anything that is wrong,
- ask us to delete information we no longer have a reason to keep,
- ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to us using it,
- ask us to transfer it to another provider,
- withdraw your consent to marketing at any time.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.

If we change how we handle personal information we will update this page and change the date at the top. Please check back occasionally.
